WGEA reaffirms CUA’s commitment to gender equality for fifth year in a row
Australia’s largest credit union CUA has today been recognised for its commitment to workplace gender equality for the fifth consecutive year.
CUA is among 28 organisations in the financial services and insurance services sector, which have received the 2018-19 Employer of Choice for Gender Equality (EOCGE) citation from the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA). The citation recognises an organisation’s focus and best practice in promoting gender equality in Australian workplaces.
CUA CEO Rob Goudswaard said he was proud of CUA’s ongoing efforts to embed equal employment opportunities in the workplace.
“The WGEA sets high standards that organisations need to meet to receive the EOCGE citation. I’m thrilled that CUA continues to meet these benchmarks and has once again been recognised for creating a workplace where our team members can thrive regardless of their gender.”
CUA has demonstrated its commitment to diversity and inclusion by embedding flexible work arrangements that are modelled by its senior leadership team. These arrangements include role sharing as well as flexible work locations and hours to cater for team members’ familial priorities, studies, personal interests and geographical location.
CUA has also organised activities via its Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) which has resulted in a 68 per cent increase in awareness amongst team members regarding diversity and inclusion. ERGs provide long term business benefit by developing initiatives specific to each group that support CUA’s diversity and inclusion strategy, providing both organisational and team member benefits.
CUA Chief People Officer Tracey Lake said that gender equality is not just about filling roles with more female team members.
"Achieving gender equality is a continuous movement which goes beyond hiring more women or having more women in senior positions. This is why CUA takes a holistic approach to this important initiative by implementing a range of strategies and provisions to ensure that our team members receive equal opportunities at work."
