Social Media Security Tips
Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Snapchat and Twitter are a great way to keep in touch with family, friends and work colleagues, not to mention sharing all those big events (and small – like breakfast) in your life. With new smartphones, it’s almost too easy to share, or even overshare your information.
A few social posts could give away enough personal information to put your privacy at risk and open yourself up to identity theft.
Here are three handy tips to protect yourself:
- Manage your privacy settings – make sure you’re comfortable with the information shared with family, friends, the public, and other websites or apps.
- Turn off the location services on your camera and social networking apps so criminals can’t see where you live and potentially when you’re not home.
- Be selective with your connections – only 'friend' people you know and trust in the real world.
