We’re always looking for new ways to improve your banking experience. By upgrading customers to Visa Debit cards, you get to keep all the great features of eftpos while enjoying the additional flexibility, security, and benefits offered by Visa.
- You’ll receive a new Visa Debit card in the post with a different card number, expiry date and CVV to those of your current debit card. These details will appear on the reverse of your new card rather than the front as you will have been used to with eftpos.
- Everything else! All your account details (account type, number, BSB etc.) will remain exactly as they are now.

We gave details of when to expect your new Visa Debit card and when your eftpos card will stop working in your original notification. All customers should receive their new cards by the beginning of November. If yours hasn’t arrived by then, please call us on 133 282.

Yes, your new card will have a new card number, expiry date, and CVV number.
If you have more than one eftpos card, we will communicate separately about when each card will be replaced.
When you’ve received your new Visa Debit card, you will need to activate it straight away. Don’t worry, this bit’s easy! Check out our step-by-step guide to the process in online banking or mobile banking.
If you’re having trouble activating your card online, you can do it over the phone by calling 133 282 or by visiting your nearest branch.
Once your new card is activated, you will need to:
- Change the PIN (if required). You can do this via online banking, our mobile app, or in-branch.
- Destroy your old eftpos debit card.
- Update any recurring payments (e.g. direct debits) with your new card details.
- Set up your new Visa Debit card in your digital wallet.
If you don’t activate your Visa Debit card before your eftpos debit card stops working, you won’t be able to make point-of-sale purchases or withdraw cash from ATMs.
A new PIN will be sent to you in a separate letter. If you don't want to wait for it arrive, or you want to change it when it does, you can reset it via online or mobile banking, or in-branch.
No, you don't need to open a new account to receive your new Visa Debit card.
If you suspect fraudulent activity on your account, don’t wait for your new card to arrive - please contact us immediately. We will block your eftpos card so no further fraudulent transactions can be processed and issue you with a new Visa Debit card.
You don’t need to worry about closing your eftpos debit card. It will stop working automatically on the date listed in your notification letter.
If you wish to receive your new Visa Debit card sooner, please contact us and we’ll have it issued to you immediately. When you receive your new Visa Debit card and have activated it, please destroy your old eftpos debit card.
No, Great Southern Bank have decided to withdraw eftpos debit cards from service which means they will no longer be able to be used. You should destroy your existing eftpos debit card as soon as you have received and activated your new Visa Debit card.
No. None of your account details are changing, including any home loan accounts you hold with us.
You can make purchases from any merchant that accepts Visa or Eftpos. This includes over-the-phone and online transactions.
No, it’s a debit card.
There are no monthly fees to worry about. There are changes to your international transaction fees, though. It's important that you review Great Southern Bank's Terms and Conditions to understand the fees and charges relating to your new Visa Debit card.
Yes. Unlike your eftpos debit card, a Visa Debit Card is your passport to global shopping. As one of the most widely-accepted cards around the world, you have access to millions of physical and online retailers in Australia and beyond.
Your new card number is printed on the reverse of your new Visa Debit card along with its expiry date and CVV number.
It may take up to seven business days for your new card to arrive in the post. If you haven't received it after seven business days, please call us on 133 282.
Should your card status change after receiving this communication, Great Southern Bank will not reissue a new card as described. Please contact us at any time and we can arrange a new card to be re-issued for you.
